Minecraft will ban NFTs on the game servers and will change the usage guidelines to ban NFT use on its servers and also ban NFTs that use the game’s assets so let’s read more today in our latest cryptocurrency news.

The popular game Minecraft will block the use of the NFTs and the blockchain technology on its servers and the game will also prohibit the creation of NFT projects based on its assets. Minecraft is one of the most popular games in the world and its publisher, Microsoft, has only grown since its launch in 2009. The developer Mojang is not keen on seeing the blocky hit used in conjunction with other NFT projects and served public notice that the game will soon ban the use of this technology.

The Microsoft-owned studio shared a news post about the upcomign changes to the Minecraft usage guidelines and they are all about NFTs. Minecraft will ban blockchain technology on the game servers that are run by fans and creators and will ban the use of Minecraft imagery to create these NFt projects. The post read:

“To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications, nor may Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods, be utilized by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.”

Mojang allows Minecraft server operators to charge money and access the custom online experience but the studio sees NFTs as a running counter for the spirit of the game and this is due to the NFT scarcity models in the studio’s view which can limit the ability of the players to access features of the servers:

“The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering, which we think is inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players.”

Minecraft will ban NFTs as Mojang noted that some of the servers allow the use of NFTs which represent in-game items and provide NFT rewards for the players. There are other projects which turned Minecraft assets into NFT collectibles like Polygon-based NFT worlds that sell virtual land plots that can be used on the Minecraft server. According to the data, NFT worlds generated about $163 million worth of NFT trading volume and the co-founder ArkDev noted that the team is trying to determine how to proceed during the wake of impending rules shifts:

“We are working to figure out to what extent this will [affect] us and also have potential pivots planned in the absolute worst case that keeps us going. We’re not leaving.”
