FTX plans to roll out crypto services for game publishers and even announced the launch of its own gaming unit as we can see more today in our latest blockchain news.
Crypto exchange FTX US affiliate announced the launch of the gaming unit called FTX Gaming, as one spokesperson said:
“We are launching FTX Gaming because we see games as an exciting use case for crypto. There are two billion plus gamers in the world who have played with and collected digital items, and can now also own them.”
FTX gaming will launch gaming tokens, offer NFT support and it is set to hire software engineers next month. Just a few months ago, FTX announced it will be co-investing alongside Lightspeed Venture Partners and Solana Ventures of about $100 million into crypto gaming projects. FTX plans to roll out the new service right as Amy Wu who was a partner at Lightspeed joined the exchange to lead FTX’s new $2 billion Web3 Venture fund. Wu also hinted at a white-label solution for games’ publishers that will be integrated with various crypto components:
“We can provide all of that white-labeled for the largest gaming companies in the world and new indie studios that are looking for a turnkey solution. We’re super excited to be a major player in providing and being a technology vendor for the gaming industry.”
The launch of the FTX Gaming unit and crypto as a service platform seems to be precisely what Wu was referring to and the news came at a time when big players in the gaming space continued to hunt down the best way to enter the space. Major gaming publishers around the world already jumped on the NFT bandwagon and as Electronics Arts CEO Andrew Wilson suggested, NFTs will become a huge part of the future of the industry.
Ubisoft as another triple-A game publisher recieved criticism from the fan base when it announced it will incorporate NFTs into the Ghost Recon Breakpoint title and the company still stuck to itself calling NFTs a major change that will take time. Despite the crypto scene being excited about NFTs, many gamers still disagree and see the technology for publishers to make more money:
“There are few fan bases more passionate than a gamer is about their game. They’re super protective of sticking to the integrity of the content, that the studio is doing the right thing, that their voice is being respected.”
