OpenSea tapped Metalink Web3 communications platform in order to enhance the customer service with the move coming after the platform ended up paying $1.8 million to collectors that had NFTs sold at old prices as well as other communication missteps along the way so let’s read further in today’s latest blockchain news.
The Web3 communications platform Metalink will work with NFT marketplace OpenSea on launching three official channels for OpenSea and will focus on support, announcements, and customer support. The news today came in the wake of a rough month for OpenSea with the company being forced to respond to the users that complained of inactive listings, exploit on the platform which led to the valuable NFTs being sold for less than they were actually worth. OpenSea tapped metalink after it faced an issue with scammers posing as employees on Discord as well as other communication problems.
7/We’re excited to bring this level of support to our community… as we provide OpenSea a new home to connect with the NFT ecosystem they helped create.

Despite the customer service issues, the company posted its best month yet in terms of sales which is a record $5 billion in NFT trading volume which are tokens that exist on blockchain networks like Ethereum and are used to own over an asset. Only holders of Metalink’s approved NFT collection can access OpenSea channels and Metalink also supports nine NFT collections like BAYC, Cool Cats, World of Women, and Doodles. Metalink founder Jake Udell said his platform was created to be a more secure alternative to Discord:
“We started as a private chat app for CryptoPunks.”
Udell explained that when he saw 15% of CryptoPunks owners were signing onto the Metalink with their wallets and realized his site could expand beyond being a private chatting platform for a collection. OpenSea’s Metalink channels will have dedicated community support staff from OpenSea that spend a few hours a day in the platform all of whom will be marked as verified OpenSea Staff. The Metalink deal came as Discord has become the main playground for crypto scammers and hackers but Discord doesn’t appear to be interested in adding Web3 integrations with the CEO backing away from a possible metamask wallet integration after Nitro users threatened to cancel their subscriptions.
Discord servers for NFT communities like the Crypto chicks and fracta.Io were hacked and made some collectors wary of the platform as a whole for Web3 activities. OpenSea’s discord server posted information about scams, advising users to turn off their DMs and not to disclose their wallet seed phrase while others wanted more to protect the users as some were asking Twitter to verify the OpenSea support account.
