Ukraine confirms the airdrop that is supposed to bolster the fundraising campaign and the government announced that the crypto donations have already reached $30 million and more so let’s read further in today’s latest cryptocurrency news.
The governemnt of Ukraine confirms the Airdrop of crypto in order to boost the donation efforts so all companies, NGOs, and individuals already contributed over $30 million worth of crypto to the country that can help in its battles against Russia. A few days after the launch of Russia’s special military operation, Ukraine started accepting crypto as a means of donation, and yesterday we even saw Polakdot’s founder Gavin Wood donating over $5 million worth of DOT. The authorities said they are grateful and hinted of a possible airdrop in the future.
Ukraine’s ruling body assured that this distribution will happen today, March 3 and it also informed that Mykhailo Fedorov who is the Vice PM will give more details about it. A crypto airdrop is often an event where an organization releases free tokens to members of the community for promotional purposes and the move is intended to encourage the adoption of these assets. This is not the first time that ta country launched an airdrop for its citizens, however.
Last summer we saw the government of El Salvador disturbing over $30 worth of BTC for every adult that will sign up for the program as the nation prepared to embrace the main digital asset as a legal tender. Ukraine’s endeavor however will mark the first time a country launches an airdrop to fight a war and to be amassed by crypto donations. Given that the authorities were accepting contributions in BTC, ETH, Tether, and Polkadot, it still remains unclear what assets will be distributed.
Over the past few days, Ukraine gathered huge support from organizations and individuals as a part of the crypto space. Binance for example donated $10 million but the exchange said it will not stop servicing Russian accounts. The company argued that the crypto sector is meant to provide greater financial freedom and this initiative cannot oppose the principles. It’s worth noting that most anonymous individuals donated huge amounts of crypto for Ukraine and one anonymous contributor even sent 80 BTC to Come back Alive, an NGO that supports the Ukrainian army with equipment.
